The Cr8 Health and Fitness Network

In my many efforts to introduce my kids to a variety of foods that are wholesome and healthy I have cut way, way back on snack foods that are filled with sugar, empty calories, etc. I do keep 100% fruit juice on hand which the little ones drink diluted with water (they've never complained). I also keep things like pretzel slims from Trader Joe's and their cheese puffs which taste like popcorn but look like those old orange cheese balls, except these are white.

The pretzel slims are my favorite because they are crunchy like a cracker but taste like a pretzel, except they're not so big. Aside from these little specialties I also have the usual staples of fruit, peanut butter, whole grain cereal, and vegetables you can eat uncooked.

Today the baby (actually he's a toddler) woke up from his nap, crying, hungry, and clingy. He had already had a banana, an apple, a teaspoon of peanut butter, yogurt, milk, juice and cereal. I was in the process of munching on pretzel slims, carrots and Hummus when he reached for the bowl and began his own little feast. He must have been really hungry or he really likes hummus. He and I finished that portion and in the end he was licking his fingers. I was surprised because the Hummus was a little tangy probably because of the Sun-Dried Tomato and Basil.

It was such a treat to see one of my kids eating something out of the ordinary. Very Cool!

Thanks for the recipe. I have to add that to my list of things I plan to make one of these days. I sometimes forget about hummus, I love the stuff. My toddler is now loving green beans, cold or warm, he doesn't care...I love that too.

Fantastic, the sooner they are introduced to and eat these 'weird' foods the better. They'll never know anything different besides healthy nutritional foods. My six year old loves lima beans, now who in the world not only asks for lima beans but cries when they are not served?

Isn't it great!
