“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day” is the statement I grew up with. I heard it in school from teachers, from my parents as they tried to get a teen age girl to eat anything each morning, and as a mom I said it over and over. Is it true? I certainly didn’t live it until my mid thirties.
Now I will shout it from the top of mountains “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day” But what we eat at breakfast is important too, Very Important.
#1 Our bodies need to be refueled after going all night with out any food. We have fasted between 8-10 hours. No food or water. It is the prime time to introduce healthy foods into our system.
#2 Our bodies need healthy foods in order to start the day out on the right track. Filling your breakfast plate or bowl with simple carbs like cereals, toast, or bagels will result in starting our blood sugar on the roller coaster ride of high spikes followed by low lows. On the other hand if we eat a nutritious protein, fibrous carbs, and healthy fats our blood sugar stays on an even line and our body likes the smooth ride that produces.
#3 Our bodies need to be treated like an important part of our well being, in other words treating our body like it is something of value will add value to how we perceive ourselves. Filling our stomachs with nutritious good tasting breakfast foods will commence the day with the mindset of tackling the day for good health.
So eat breakfast for your body to refuel it after the night’s rest. Eat breakfast for yourself, treat yourself special, fix a meal fit to serve a king or queen. I wouldn’t walk into a king’s presence with a bowl of cocoa puffs, so why should I feel I am less deserving?
Eating a healthy breakfast is the most important meal each day.
What do you eat for breakfast?
